UPND Northern Province Chairperson joins Kabimba’s Rainbow Party

rbowTHE United Party for National Development (UPND) has lost its big wig in Northern Province to the Rainbow Party after its chairperson announced his resignation yesterday.

Steven Mulenga who held the position of provincial chairperson announced his resignation but refused to state the reasons behind his decision.

“I am exercising my democratic right and have decided to join the Rainbow Party. Those that want to talk to me can call me,” he said.

However, impeccable sources from within the UPND structures in Northern Province that spoke on condition of anonymity said new comers that joined UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s campaign during the campaign period of the last presidential election where engineering to place their own people in party structures.

“We know that a name connected with a well-known politician in Kasama is being primed to take over from Mulenga,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the MMD in Northern Province has said it will field a candidate in the forthcoming Senga Hill parliamentary by-election.

Northern region chairperson Stephen Mukuka said the party was undaunted by its former MP Kkapembwa Simbao’s decision to apply to stand on the PF ticket.

Mr Mukuka said his party would fight to win the election.

Mr Mukuka who is MMD National Executive Committee Member charged that the former ruling party had what it took to return the Senga hill parliamentary seat.

He however, lamented the fact that some of the MMD’s parliamentarians had neglected the party.
