POLICEPolice in Eastern Province have launched manhunt for United Party for National Development (UPND) National Deputy Chairperson for Youth and Sports development Michael Chuzu for issuing a statement that the UPND does not recognise President Edgar Lungu as a Republic President.
Mr Chuzu, who is a Chipata based resident, is wanted by the police for issuing a statement on Chipata Television (CTV) alleging that the opposition political party does not recognise President Lungu as Republican President.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya said yesterday that police were looking for Mr Chuzu for issuing such statement to the media.
Mr Chilufya said police have managed to obtain footage regarding Mr Chuzu on what he issued on the local television station.
“Police are looking for Michael Chuzu for issuing statement that the party does not recognise President Edgar Lungu as Republic President. This man is on run and hiding but we shall fish him out soon so that he can answer to the charges,” he said.
Last Friday, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini said there was no point for some UPND members of Parliament (MPs) to be in denial that President Lungu was the Head of State.
Dr Matibini since advised all parliamentarians to avoid wasting time on a fact that cannot change because Mr Lungu was duly elected as Republican President.
The Speaker said only President Lungu could be referred to as His Excellency and not any political leader in Zambia because he was the Head of State.
Dr Matibini said during the Vice President’s question time in Parliament when UPND Choma Central MP Cornelius Mweetwa continuously referred to the President as Mr Lungu.
